The first thing to consider is the type of roof you have – flat or sloped. Flat roofs are prone to leaks and surface degradation due to weathering and standing water. Sloped roofs are typically constructed using asphalt shingles, tiles, slate, or metal.

A clean, efficient gutter and roofing system properly carries water runoff and diverts it away from your house. Ice dams are one of the most common causes of roof leaks and interior damage to your home and are often the result of an improperly-insulated attic space. If you can see your ceiling joists through the insulation in your attic, chances are your home or business is under-insulated.
